GATE 2014 · General Aptitude · Numerical Computation · medium

Answer: The sum of the smallest odd number and second largest even number is 163.

  1. Find the eight consecutive odd numbers: 8a + 56 = 656 => 8a = 600 => a = 75. Smallest odd = 75.
  2. Find the four consecutive even numbers: b + 3 = 87 => b = 84. Four evens: 84, 86, 88, 90. Second largest = 88.
  3. Compute required sum: 75 + 88 = 163.
